Easy to cook Chicken Cordon Bleu

It took a while before I realized that my passion is really cooking. Me and Bhabha tried cooking Chicken Cordon Bleu today. At first, we were so disappointed with how "Ganda" (meat and poultry seller at the wet market) cut and fillet the chicken. It was ripped off but quite manageable. Thus, we continued to prepare the ingredients and failed our way to success (expression, may be regarded as "blessing in disguise" or "something awful/upsetting happened in the process but result is successful"). Here's how we did it:

Ingredients:
  • 1 pc. boneless chicken breast (about 1/2 kilo of chicken breast)
  • 3-4 pcs. sliced ham
  • 3-4 pcs. sliced cheese
  • 1 pc. beaten egg
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/8 cup softened butter
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • paprika/McCormick barbecue spice (optional)
For sauce:
  • 1 cup of all-purpose cream
  • 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup of water/chicken stock
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 2 cloves of minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp. cornstarch (optional for thickening purposes)
Procedure:
  1. Mix salt and butter. Season the chicken breast with the mixture. Place the ham and cheese on top of the seasoned chicken breast and roll it slowly. Secure the chicken roll with toothpicks.
  2. Dip the chicken roll in egg (beaten) then in the breadcrumbs.
  3. Grease pan with butter then bake chicken roll at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 4o minutes.
  4. Prepare the chicken cordon bleu sauce while baking the chicken roll. Mix all-purpose cream, Parmesan cheese, water/chicken stock, salt and pepper in a bowl. Saute minced garlic in butter then add the mixture. Stir until thick and smooth.
  5. Let the chicken roll cool a little bit before slicing it. Serve with the creamy sauce.

Good to Know Stuffs: Cordon Bleu is a French word which means "blue ribbon". In French culinary, Cordon Bleu is awarded to food prepared to a very high standard or a chef of high quality.
